Sobela Ocean Aquarium

Benson Method was proud to be selected through a competitive process to serve as part of a collaborative Owners Representative Team for the Kansas City Zoo's  Sobela Ocean Aquarium. This ambitious project brings the wonders of global aquatic biomes to Kansas City, significantly expanding the Zoo's educational and conservation impact.

Our team provided comprehensive oversight for the entire construction of this 68,000 SF building, which now boasts an impressive footprint on the Zoo's campus. Holding a colossal 600,000 gallons of water, the aquarium features between 30 and 40 diverse salt and freshwater exhibits, showcasing a vast array of aquatic species from around the world.

Construction for the Sobela Ocean Aquarium commenced in 2021, and we meticulously managed the project through its completion, ensuring a successful public opening in late summer 2023. As Owner's Representative, Benson Method was instrumental in guiding this complex endeavor, ensuring the Zoo's vision for a world-class aquarium was realized on time and within budget.
